what is psychotherapy about?Psychotherapy is the treatment that aims to change thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It is carried out between a professional, with the necessary training and skills to facilitate psychological change, and a person who is looking to alleviate psychological suffering.
I believe therapy is a journey in self-growth, probably the toughest journey we can make in our life, but the one that has the greatest impact. It is a exceptional experience for each person because everyone is unique and need different things. Psychotherapy promotes changes consistent with the goals that a person wants to achieve. It provides order to the chaos, facilitating the understanding of ideas and actions that were previously confusing. It leads to relief by empowering a person to cope with anxieties and stresses that had been avoided. It leads to new opportunities to learn different ways of thinking, feeling and acting. It causes the feeling of discomfort to gradually give way to that of personal control and mastery. The client determines how long the process will last. Objectives are established in a consensual and collaborative way. It is important to note that psychotherapy requires personal effort and is not always a quick solution. It is essential to create an alliance of safety and emotional containment between the client and the therapist in order to produce significant changes and for these changes to last over time. I strongly believe that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but one of resilience and strength. |
